THE/TOMAS/SON/FAMILY – IX: The Tragedy at 2nd floor

A headless corpse was thrown to the floor, causing the crowd to recoil in fear.

Zhang Lu’s reaction was particularly aggressive: “Yes! That’s it!”

Xu Lie said, “That’s the ogre.”

Ater she looked out through the cracks in her fingers and finished carefully looking at the corpse on the floor, she was surprised again, “But this isn’t the same one I saw ……”

It seemed there was more than one that had invaded the cabin.

”So the ogre looks like this, huh?”

”Strange, why are there burn marks where he was decapitated? It looks like it was roasted by fire!”

The ogre was certainly scary, but the pile of rotting flesh lying on the ground wasn’t much of a threat, and some of the more daring boys were coming up to poke the corpse, and kept making astonished, surprised exclamations.

”It’s freaky! Look guys, it doesn’t have ears, nose and mouth!” Someone with sharp eyes noticed.

Lin Rurui couldn’t help but glance towards the head of the corpse as well. He had already vaguely noticed the difference in the night before, but it was only after this look that he realised what the problem was. The ogre’s features were partially mutilated, not as if it had been born with a disability, but more like it had been cut off with a sharp instrument, its wounds hideous and its bright red gums exposed.

But as seen during the day, the ogre’s five senses were mostly intact.

”He was treated like this by his own people.” Lin Rurui said after a calm analysis.

Xu Lie was puzzled, “But why would they do that?”

Lin Rurui had a hunch as she thought of Jenny, who had picked a knife and cut off her own finger. There seemed to be a connection between the two. As she thought about this, Jenny hurried down the stairs with her skirt.

One of her hands was bandaged and blood was oozing from her little finger. Her face was as white and haggard as if she had just fished it out of the water. At the sight of the ogre on the floor, she shrieked and covered her mouth: “What is this thing! Oh my God! My God! Why is it in my house? You killed him! You’ve killed someone!”

The uninformed student was still comforting her, but Lin Rurui just thought the woman was a superb actor. After the crowd explained, Jenny finally reluctantly accepted the story about the ogre. Her own broken finger, however, went unnoticed because of her talking nonsense.

After the drama, Jenny called down Morgan and the couple helped to bury the body as usual. Lin Rurui takes one last look at the body, wondering what bowl of soup it will be used in again tomorrow.

Lin Rurui moved out of her room and moved a chair from the living room and placed it in the doorway to sit on.

Xu Lie: “Boss, what are you doing?”

Lin Rurui’s eyes were closed and the two steel swords were cradled in her arms, “I’ll guard, you guys sleep.”

  ”Lin Rurui…”

Everyone was touched to the core, thanked her again and again, wrapped up in blankets and laying down snuggled up to each other. Although they knew that the house might be invaded by ogres, they felt an unparalleled sense of peace of mind as they looked at the cold figure at the door.

The sound of sleepy snoring in the living room grew, interspersed with the beeping of the wood burning in the fireplace.

It was late in the evening and the snow was falling harder and harder. Lin Rurui raised his hand to catch a flap of snow, and when she raised her eyes again, a small figure appeared behind a tree not far away.

”It’s snowing so heavily, won’t you come in and sit down?” Although he had come as a guest, Lin Rurui’s attitude was more like a host than Daniel.

”The snow is heavy every year.” Daniel said coldly, refusing her.

”I haven’t thanked you.” Lin Rurui smiled. She rarely smiled, and if the corners of her lips hadn’t been naturally upturned, she would look more heartless.

  ”Thank me for what?”

”You were rushing over and knocking over the cup back then.” She thought the kid was too tough, “The glass had something like drugs in it, right? I didn’t intend to drink it, but thanks for the kindness.”

A blush flew across Daniel’s face and he turned his face away, “No!” The tone was fierce, like a kitty cat with fangs and claws acting mature..

After a moment, he eased his tone back, “It’s a GHB – Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid, a prescription drug. If it’s mixed in with tea and can cause unconsciousness.”

A lightning bolt flashed through Lin Rurui and she quickly understood, “Is that why the people who disappeared were silent?”

The first to disappear were the wounded. They were badly injured and more alert than normal people, and once they were dragged they would come to their senses because of the severe pain. But what if they were unconscious all the time?

”Exactly.” Daniel grunted, “They put that powder in my food too, but I found it.”

  ”You’re their own child.”

”Children? Oh, Morgan Thomasson and his wife have completely lost their humanity. Tigers won’t eat their own children, but what if they’re ogres?” Daniel said slyly.

Lin Rurui had never seen such an expression on a child’s face. Great grief, hatred and biting fear mixed and twisted into a filthy dye that coated Daniel’s tender face: “They killed Emma before my eyes… cut her up into pieces, put her on the grill, oiled her, grilled her… …and finally threw her bones into the kennel…” The pink rabbit hairpin Lin Rurui found deep in the kennel was in fact the little girl’s last relic.

Lin Rurui was silent. At a time like this, there is no proper response in the world.

Lin Rurui waited quietly for him to gather his thoughts. It had taken a great deal of fortitude and courage to dissect the bloody past, but it was also a sign of Daniel’s trust in her. Daniel hadn’t risked coming to her to talk about it, either.

The loss of control lasted only a moment, and Daniel put himself together and asked, “You met one of those monsters, didn’t you?”

”Yeah. Very strange bit. That ogre’s body wasn’t intact. There were parts of its five senses and body parts mutilated.” Lin Rurui voiced her doubts.

”There is a culture of mutual cannibalism in the ogre population. They will cut off parts of their own bodies for each other to eat, as a way of showing their love.” Daniel said.

Lin Rurui paused and said, “I saw Jenny mutilate herself.”

”She has assimilated.” Daniel told the shocking secret, his expression even tinged with contempt, “Morgan and Jenny, they used to be nice, too. until they were taken captive. Turning captives into their own kind is an important way for them to expand their species besides reproducing.”

It turned out Jenny cut off her finger to show her love for Morgan. What a twisted and barbaric culture. Did they kill their own young daughters in the name of love, too?

Lin Rurui was feeling sick to his stomach when she suddenly looked up, to the room at the end of the first floor.

  Daniel asked, “What’s wrong?”

”Something’s wrong.” Lin Rurui interrupted the conversation and walked back into the room, but as she turned around he remembered something and threw a weapon at Daniel, “You know how to use it, right? Take it for protection.”

She walked into the warmth of the house in frost and snow, and Old Li woke up to the chill, rubbing his eyes sleepily. Lin Rurui paced up to him and asked, “What room is at the end of the first floor?”

Old Li said he didn’t know. Another student, who had been woken up, said, “Liu Xueling and the girls think it’s too crowded and messy here, so they went to sleep in that room.”

”Damn it!” Even if it was too noisy, why didn’t they choose a closer place? They were waiting for the ogres to visit that place!

Lin Rurui turned around and dashed upstairs. The people who remained in the same place looked at each other.

Liu Xueling was woken up by the sound of shelled peanuts being eaten.

She was in bed with a fat girl called Zhao Xinyue, who had stinky smell. She was very reluctant to share a bed with her, but she had to maintain her image as a beautiful girl with a good heart and couldn’t refuse. But she didn’t expect this girl would hide under the covers in the middle of the night to eat!

What a nuisance! Didn’t she think it was disgusting to drop food scraps on the bed? Liu Xueling endured and endured, but the crunching sound coming from the end of the bed never stopped.

”Zhao Xinyue.” She couldn’t help herself, suppressing her anger and saying softly, “What are you eating?”

She meant to remind the other person, but Zhao Xinyue at the other end of the bed said, “I’m eating peanuts, do you want some?” The tone of voice was a little odd, but it was indeed a familiar voice.

Indefinably, as if some heavy suspicion in her heart had been gone, Liu Xueling sighed with untraceable relief and said, “Sure, can you give it to me?”

An object was thrown over and landed right on her pillow.

  A bloody severed finger.

Liu Xueling’s breathing stopped abruptly. The deepest, darkest fear swept over her like a tidal wave.

”Liu Xueling!” A girl behind her called out miserably. Liu Xueling rolled over and sat up as a girl from her class, Qian Meizhai, came out of the darkness and fell to her knees in a poof. A baseball bat swung out from the darkness behind her and her head burst open like a watermelon that was shattered in response, revealing red and white flesh.

Liu Xueling reached up and covered her mouth, gagging the scream back into her mouth. If she dared to make a sound, her downfall would be like Qian Meizhai. The figure wielding the baseball bat stepped out of the shadows, illuminated by the hazy light, and it was the simple face of Morgan Thomason, the cabin’s male owner.

She had obviously checked over and over again to make sure the door was locked before she went to bed, but the lock had been pried open with a wire. No one screamed. Bodies lay all over the floor. The girls’ necks had been snapped silently in their sleep.

The duvet was lifted and the body of the fat girl, Zhao Xinyue, was pushed out of bed and rolled to the floor. A large wound in her abdomen and someone buried their head above it, sucking on the yellow and white fat like a possessed man.

Why had the gracious host couple turned into cannibalistic monsters? It was too late to think about the cause and effect, and Liu Xueling covered her mouth with her hands, tears flowing unconsciously all over her face.

Death was literally closing in on this 18 years old beautiful young girl.

Jenny Thomason stuck out her blood-red tongue and licked her lips, smiling strangely and complimenting her: “Good girl. As a commendation, I’ll eat you gently.”

Bang! The door to the room was kicked open!

A figure flashed into the doorway. She was extremely fast and pre-emptive, the sharp glistening blade approached across the air, and Jenny screamed, “No! How can you…”

Before the words were out of her mouth, her head was already rolling off. Blood and saliva flourished and spilled out.

Morgan Thomason reacted just in time, grabbing Liu Xuling’s thin shoulders in two iron-clad hands and dragging her in front of him as he walked to the window, twisting his face to say, “Don’t come any closer! Leave! Or I’ll eat her alive!”

Lin Rurui lifted her sword to shake the blood off the blade and slowly looked up. Half of her face was stained red, blood dripping down the contours of her cheeks.

Liu Xueling shouted, “RuiRui, help me!”

Spurred on by her cry, Morgan closed his hands in a fierce choke hold: “Get out! Get out! Devil! Monster! Get out of here! Or I’ll strangle your friend!”

Lin Ru Rui was unmoved, she even approached him unhurriedly. Liu Xueling choked and her eyes nearly rolled, looking like she was about to be strangled alive, when a shot rang out!

A bloody hole appeared in Morgan’s face. His eyes widened in disbelief as his heavy body collapsed with a crash.

Lin Rurui walked over to the window where Xu Lie was on the lawn waving his hand gleefully at the room: “Boss! I’m a good marksman, aren’t I!”

”Well done.” Lin Rurui praised him and she was about to help Liu Xueling up when she was slapped across the face.

Liu Xueling’s eyes were red as she glared at her, “Why did you come just now! Do you know how many people have died!”
